RapidHIT™ 200 Human DNA Identification System

RapidHIT 200 Human DNA Identification System
The ideal solution to meet the requirements of modern human DNA identification (HID) is an automated system that processes samples rapidly and at low cost. The RapidHIT™ 200 System is a self-contained Human Identification System that automates and accelerates the process of producing standardized DNA profiles from mouth swabs and other human samples in less than 90 minutes, instead of taking 12 to 15 hours in a laboratory.

DNA profiles generated by the RapidHIT System are used to match collected samples with existing DNA records in domestic and international databases or to expand those databases. Local, state, national and international law enforcement and security agencies use DNA-based human identification to make informed identification decisions regarding the arrest, detention, or release of suspects, as well as to analyze crime scene evidence. The RapidHIT system will allow rapid DNA analysis at the point of collection — a new approach in the usage of DNA profiles as an actionable biometric similar to fingerprints.

The RapidHIT 200 Human Identification System is set to commercially launch later this year.

Technology
The RapidHIT 200 is the first fully automated sample-to-answer system for STR based HID. The 8-channel RapidHIT 200 System can process up to eight samples, including controls, with Short Tandem Repeat (STR) analysis, in less than two hours for human identity testing.

The system is based on integration of the company’s proprietary and patented technologies, as well as its rapid in-house microfluidic chip prototyping. Reagents in disposable cartridges are loaded on the system with up to eight samples and the sample processing is initiated with no further user interaction. The system extracts DNA from the samples and performs STR amplifications, electrophoretic separations, and software analysis to generate full profiles, compatible with CODIS and international databases, in less than two hours, with no further user interaction.

The RapidHIT 200 integrates all sample handling steps starting from buccal swabs, blood or other tissue, through cell lysis, DNA extraction, amplification, separation, and detection. Further, the system uses rapid PCR chemistry, on-board capillary electrophoresis, and integrated laser induced fluorescence detection.

The DNA Profiler cartridge is the core of the system and facilitates the integration of all sample processing steps. This single-use disposable cartridge is the only part of the instrument that is exposed to the sample, preventing the possibility of any sample carry-over to the next run. The cartridge consists of injection molded polycarbonate manifolds bonded to plastic MOVe™ chips.
